A former
commissioner in the state and constituent of Oru-East state Constituency, Hon Nelson
Ezerioha has said that the member
representing the constituency, Hon Greg Okemili has not informed his people
about the vacation of the Oru-East State Constituency seat at the State Assembly.
Answering questions
from newsmen in Owerri, Hon. Ezerioha stated that the constituency’s lawmaker
at the State Assembly has not summoned a meeting his constituents to inform
them that his seat has been declared vacant, emphasizing that a meeting
convened by Hon. Okemili to that effect would create an avenue for suggestions
on the next line of action.
He disclosed that the
news came as a shock, pointing out that nobody has the right to declare another
person’s seat vacant based on alleged non-defection to another party.
He went further to
inform that he has not laid hands on any document from the state Assembly
declaring the seat of Hon Okemili vacant and stressed that, as a lawyer, he would
expected to comment on the issue when documents were before him to ascertain
the reason for the action.
He further stated
that if the matter is legal, Hon Okemili knew what to do and believed that he
can comfortably take care of the matter whether in the House of Assembly or
elsewhere.
Meanwhile, when a
text message was sent to Hon. Okemili’s mobile number on the issue, he did not
respond as at the time of going to press.
It could be recalled that,
in one of the Assemly’s plenaries, the seat of Oru-East state constituency
occupied by Hon. Greg Okemili was declared vacant by the speaker of Imo State
House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu following an Appeal court order
which ordered the lower court to retry the matter between Greg Okemili of APGA
and Robert Okwuego of PDP.©2014
